Progress background - Starting with the persuasion of merchants and residents by experts
Site character - A historical market formed in 1797 with Suwon Hwaseong
- Suwon’s representative market until the early 1990s, where there was a bus terminal to Seoul
- Decline since the 1990s, leaving only restaurants and lodgings
- As Suwon Hwaseong is listed as a World Cultural Heritage, it is designated as a cultural property protection zone, and the region’s vitality is gradually lost due to the development activity regulation
Progress process - Started in January 2009 by meeting with experts and merchants association
- Merchants association and experts signed an MOU in October, 2009: regular meeting take place twice a month
- 66 merchant and expert meetings were held for three and a half years from January 2009 to May 2012(information session, education, seminars, excursions of domestic and overseas advanced sites, street cleaning campaigns, etc.)
- Signed a landscape agreement in June 2012
